Saturday racing went WEST

in many ways last week with the running of the Railway & Winterbottom. Many Whip members didn’t care in what order they finished as many had
boxed our top 5 and snared the $3066 First4

The Whip did get 2 from 2 1st past the post in W.A. however our $2.90 fav.
HE’S REMARKABLE was sensationally derailed after winning the Railway in favour of a local horse. Perth jock’s objected against the visitors and WA Stewards upheld it. The objection cited ‘indirect’ interference suffered @ 600m. The 2nd horse LIGHTGRAY did not even come into contact with the winner at any stage. Our reseach suggests that it was more to do with the barrier draw. If the WA horse had not drawn wider it might not have been in a position to cop that 'indirect' interferene. It's problems could have been more to do with 'the ride' and maybe the stewards were right in that if the horse had not been ridden that way it may have won it.  Kerrin Mc Evoy moved his mount off the fence at exactly where good jockeys are supposed to. The 600m might have been a little early, however, they are obliged to give their mounts every chance of winning. If they don't then they can land themselves in very serous trouble with the racing police. According to newspaper reports, Kerrin is furious and so is trainer Roger James and we sympathise with them completely. That's racing OR is it?  Members had to pick themselves off the floor & soldier on...
ORTENSIA would get outraged members back on track in the next and also supply them with the Trifecta (in order) and a First4 which paid $786
ROTHERA our 9/2 fav. provided a massive result for members. SMS sent "Bet 25 Units" Scored brilliantly paying $27 ($675 return) How many services provide that sort of genuine research and results? Most punters got the Quaddie simply by taking our main selections with the top six in the early betting in the 3yo Sandown Guineas. Easy profit even for the 10% Flexi-punter.
RED CADEAUX would have been an amazing result for Whip members in the Cup but fate wasn't kind this year. There was as much as 50/1 on offer about the animal.
Flemington again proved to be a real Bookmakers extravaganza over the Cup Carnival. Punters, and we suspect Corporate Bookmakers, were keen to make something a short priced favourite in almost every race. The winners were again the Bookmakers and 98% of punters went away sadly disappointed. The track itself has become a real puzzle. The best ground was often the middle of the track. Riders, and the position the horse occupied during the run, held the key to the result. It was often the 'kiss of death' to take your animals to the front and/or travel within 2-3 lengths of the leader. Normal racing pattern and instructions relayed to jockeys, became their downfall. This also translated to performance ratings achieved on other tracks were often close to useless when the horse contested a race at Flemington over this Cup carnival. 
  
UNDERWEIGHTED, OVER COMPENSATED and OVER HERE
The official handicapper is obviously out of touch with the class of overseas runners as compared to Australian & New Zealand stayers. His efforts have clearly been swayed by the hierarchies' obsession with luring the best stayers in the world to the antipodes to contest our Cups. While The Whip (as handicappers) have sympathy with his dilemna, this leniency has to change. Why breed and race stayers in this part of the world if overseas runners get handicapped to win the greatest staying handicap in the World.
